"Going Canadian"
Last night on Letterman, his guest said something that triggered a thought. He said that when he was traveling in Pakistan he thought he should disguise himself as Canadian. Interesting! Do people overseas see Americans as a threat OR are Canadians seen as friendlier?
In 2004 T-shirtking.com was selling "Go Canadian" kits. The Canada kit contained a T-shirt, flag pin (top right), patch and window decal (lower right). A quick reference guide titled "How to Speak Canadian, Eh?" was also thrown in.

Going Canadian, eh? I can dig it. Everyone wants to have a cool accent. And I do think if you are in Europe or elsewhere in the world, it is a different perception when you say you are Canadian versus American. Us Americans do have a stigma of being "arrogant" because of the super-power status of the country. We do have a tendency (although bad) to think that everyone should cater to us. And I think Canadians don't have that perception of them. I think it is a definite advantage for you Canucks. But on the other hand...eveyone should cater to us...we do everything anyway ;-)
I do hear that Canadians have a much better image world wide than Americans do. No offense to Americans, but you really don't know much about anywhere else in the world. I know I'm generalizing here, but for the most part I've found that to be true! (you can argue with me if you want). I have met Americans that do not know where Canada is....
I know when i was in the UK last year, it was ESSENTIAL to have a CDN flag on my bag at all times.. People tell me they won't serve you in pubs etc. if they think you are American.. So i always had a flag on me at all times. I was in Scotland, and this guy came running across the street and was screaming "a canadian a canadian".. it was kinda unnerving, but totally awesome that my presence in the city was such a big deal to him.. SO.. I'd suggest the "Canadian Costume".. in my experience it comes in handy and can get you a warm welcome :)
But for us Americans would it seem too un-patriotic to do something like that? where is the line between loving your country and loving quick service at a resteraunt?
So Barry had given me this Canadian Flag sticker that I promptly had placed on a nice Nalgene bottle (looked cool, too) and had been using it at work and activities. But the last time it was in the dish washer, I guess it was too close to the jets, caused it ripped half the flag sticker off. So I can only conclude that it means I should most definitely not fake being Canadian. Be American and be proud!
ok...we need a new and controversial topic. How about border security and the fact that terrorists come to the US from Canada, cause they can get in there easier, then cross our border, where the security isn't quite the same...ya know?
