OK...so I asked some American friends last night how they spell the word "amoung/among" and sure enough they spell it "among." SO...even the name for my blog hints of Canadian (I didn't think of this till after I named my blog Alien Amoung Americans). Spell check (American based) doesn't recognize "amoung". Canadians often use the "ou" in words such as flavour and colour. We also spell "theater" - "theatre" and "center" - "centre". We also name one letter in the alphabet a little different. The last letter "z" is named "Zee" in America but in Canada we call it "Zed." That's why Zellars (like Walmart) has club Zed points. There are several little idiosyncrasies that make Canadians different than Americans. Its different...but its Canadian. :)

There is also cheque - check in US speak... I think some of our spelling is french but we use it as english.. Everyone is always telling me I spell in French, maybe that's because we are so billingual (another charectoristic that separates us from the Americans).

Thanks Michelle, I need to remember the French influence. A few more words are honor/honour and labor/labour and we have some extras like "poutine" and "pogey". OH I almost forgot our Newfoundland friends. They give us a whole new dictionary with all there slang words. I don't really know their "language" but it sure sounds funny when I hear it.
Speaking of language stuff though--it is even more. Think of the US. A person from deep in Alabama, and a guy from Compton in LA probably will have a hard time communicating on the street. Throw in Boston, NY, Midwest--I slur my words being a Hoosier and taking syllables out from between them.
But a misspelled word is always incorrect, unless it ain't misspelled.
To get you started on another post, Canadians are also more knowledgeable about the world...Americans do not even know where Canada is :) Okay, that might be an exaggeration, but you know what I mean.
There are things I respect more about the US though. The US takes stands on "issues", whereas Canada often is just out to please everyone and this cannot be done...
I guess one big difference is that the U.S. is well known for their advancements in areas like industry, technology and the amount of goods we import/export. Someone help me out here, what is Canada known for? Sorry, I really can't think of anything but Hockey which is awesome but, before long UFC cage fighting will be more popular and then what will there be?

When you get right down to the point, you and I are both Americans. I don't mean that you are not Canadian, but we live in North America. It comes down to a man made line that separates the two countries...eh. Even the little language thing doesn't separate the two countries. For example I lived in the south for a semester and had no clue what the heck anybody was saying.
